This is Soundwave. He was once an ancient spirit revered by now-extinct civilizations, but has long been asleep under the surface of the Earth. He was awakened by industrialized human activity, and having awoken in a world ravaged by greed and war by the humans that conquered it, his spirit was corrupted into something akin to a demon, and now humans regard him with terror.
He has the ability to corrupt the delicate to his command--mainly, butterflies. His minions are his eyes, and he casts them out across the world so that they may show him many things far, far away.
